These articles taught me that we cannot assume that all cultures have the same world view as ours but we must learn theirs in order to reach them. We must also learn how they view spirituality and things of that nature in order to come up with strategic and successful ways of truly converting them. When it comes to sharing my faith, I now try and bring myself to the point where I begin thinking like those I am witnessing to and making sure I am reaching them from their cultures point of view.

Title: SOAP Scriptures
Topic: Call and Commitment
Date: 4/08/09
Scripture: Genesis 12:1-9
Observation: The Lord commands Abram to leave his country and family and to go to a land that He will show him. The Lord promises Abram a great nation and many blessings. He also promises to “curse him who curses you” and to “bless those who bless you.”
Application: This shows me that if we follow God’s word He will bless us and take care of us no matter where we’re at. He shows us that He will protect us from our enemies and award those who help us and bless us. God continually promises to bless us under the condition that we follow His words and obey Him.
Prayer: It is my prayer that we will learn to hear and obey God’s callings for our lives. That we will make the decision to seek God and hold tight to His promises no matter what!

List ten specific things you learned about successful language learning from the text?
- One thing I learned is that the most important thing in the daily learning cycle is communicating with the people in the community you are working in and use the words you have already learned for that communication.
- You have to choose a language helper that will always tell you the truth and won’t be afraid to correct you when you make mistakes while speaking the language.
- Your language helper shouldn’t be a teacher.
- Next, you need to prepare what you’re going to need for things like getting your information, writing it down, and making things easier for your helper as well.
- Before going to speak with the people you must ask your helper to go over with you how to say a few things such as “Hello,” and “I’m learning your language.”
- After you have done this you need practice it with your partner and ask him if that’s how it supposed to sound and if it’s “natural” to him.
- When you have got that down, it’s time to go speak to the people and gather your information.
- After you obtain your information ,it is a very good idea to practice speaking the words with your helper.
- The next time you go to speak to the people it’s time to use what you have learned and use those words to communicate with them.
- After you do that, you need to go over what you have done and the responses that you have gotten from the people and evaluate it.
What are the four steps of the Learning Cycle?
- Prepare
- Practice
- Communicate
- Evaluate
Explain each step of the Learning Cycle.
Preparation:
- You must select a helper who is from the community where you will be working and can also speak English, preferably not a teacher. Ask him how to communicate simple things such as hello, good-bye, etc.
- Make sure the words given by the helper sound natural in their language.
- Make sure you understand the text.
- Write down any problems.
- Record the text for practice
Practice:
- Listen to all of the text.
- Say it out loud repeatedly.
- Put the words into sentences and continue to repeat.
Communication:
- Speak to the community what you have learned.
Evaluation
- Look over and evaluate all the activities you have participated in.
- Look over any problems you may have encountered.
- Figure out what you will do for your next steps and organize your material.
Explain motivation.
Motivation is an “act of will” so it’s not an emotion but it’s a decision to get something done.
Explain how children learn language.
They learn language by practicing and always experimenting.
What is the role of the language learner?
He must act like a learner and take on that role. Instead of having the mindset of a teacher he must learn to think like a student.
